Zoom meeting with UNESCAP and CARECI

May 29, 2023 | 11:12 am

The International Think Tank for Landlocked Developing Countries (ITTLLDC) held zoom meeting with the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), The Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation Institute (CARECI) on 26th May, 2023 to discuss collaboration on a research project “The Infrastructure Corridors Simulator” portal.

At this meeting Mr.Vadym Kaptur, Vice-Rector on Scientific Work of A.S. Popov Odessa National Academy of Telecommunications of Ukraine, introduced “The Infrastructure Corridors Simulator” portal. This portal is developed for professionals, engineers and decision makers for their collaboration on joint planning, designing infrastructure co-deployment, and developing integrated infrastructure corridors across borders and between countries.

The level of development in landlocked countries is on average 20 percent lower than what it would be were they not landlocked (Vienna Programme of Action for LLDCs for the Decade 2014-2024). Plus, without a lack of an informative collaboration portal, everything slows down starting from Road project, Railway project, Electricity project etc. Currently, portal contains parametric data for three pilot corridors:

·       Almaty-CholponAta (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan)

·       Urzhar-Chugunchak (Kazakhstan, China)

·       Semei-Rubtsovsk (Kazakhstan, Russia)

This “The Infrastructure Corridors Simulator” portal worked well in those member LLDCs, therefore we want to collaborate and include data from the rest of the LLDCs too.

If 8 of 11 CAREC members (landlocked developing countries) utilize this portal and add data of ongoing projects, it benefits all. Launching this portal requires USD 245.000 to host at the ITTLLDC.

Benefits of using this portal:

·       Registering new infrastructure facilities and finding other compatible infrastructure development projects (either planned or at early development stage).

In this meeting Ph.D.  Aida Karazhanova and Mr.Daesik Shin from ESCAP, Dr.Ilhom Abdulloev, Ph.D.  Ghulam Samad and Mr.Asif Razzaq from CARECI and ITT secretariat participated in.

Benefits of using this portal:

  • registering new infrastructure facilities and find other compatible infrastructure development projects (either planned or at early development stage),
  • learn from other infrastructure co-deployment projects,
  • assess technical compatibility, cost-effectiveness and economic efficiency of the co-deployed infrastructure development,
  • initiate and generate the interest of potential partners for infrastructure co-deployment
