On July 9, 2024, His Majesty Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, the King of Bhutan, visited the International Think Tank for Landlocked Developing Countries (ITTLLDC) at the UN House in Ulaanbaatar. This visit coincided with his state visit to Mongolia.

Bhutan, officially known as the Kingdom of Bhutan, is a landlocked country in South Asia, situated in the Eastern Himalayas between China to the North and India to the South. As a member of the ITTLLDC, Bhutan shares many common values and challenges with Mongolia as an LLDC.

This visit marks a historic event for the ITTLLDC, as His Majesty, King of Bhutan, graced the headquarters of the International Think Tank for LLDCs with his presence. His Majesty’s visit underscores the significant role the think tank plays in addressing the unique challenges faced by landlocked developing countries.

During his visit, His Majesty expressed his gratitude to ITTLLDC Executive Director Mr. Dulguun Damdin-Od, emphasizing the importance of an organization dedicated to addressing the unique challenges faced by LLDCs. Bhutan is a committed supporter and active contributor to the ITTLLDC. His Majesty also signed the ITTLLDC’s Guest Book of Honor.

His Majesty shared his vision of Gelephu Mindfulness City. Gelephu, located in the southern part of Bhutan, is envisioned as a Mindfulness City, reflecting a harmonious blend of urban development and environmental sustainability. The city’s development plan emphasizes the integration of mindful living practices, green spaces, and sustainable infrastructure. This initiative aims to foster a community where residents can enjoy a balanced lifestyle, emphasizing mental well-being, environmental consciousness, and cultural preservation. Gelephu is set to become a model for sustainable urban living, showcasing Bhutan’s commitment to Gross National Happiness (GNH) and holistic development.

On behalf of all member states of the International Think Tank for Landlocked Developing Countries, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to His Majesty, King of Bhutan, for gracing us with his presence.
