During their visit to Geneva, the Secretariat of the ITTLLDC met with officials from international organizations based in Geneva, such as the World Trade Organization – WTO, United Nations Development Programme – UNDP and United Nations Conference on Trade and Development – UNCTAD on the days of June 15-16, 2022.
From the WTO, the Secretariat met with Mr. Raul Torres, Head of Development Policy Unit of the Development Division and Mr. Juan Manuel Fernandez-Azpiroz, Head of Technical Assistance Coordination Section of the Institute for Training and Technical Cooperation.
From UNDP, the ITTLLDC met with the Director of the UNDP Office in Geneva Ms. Agi Veres and the Policy Specialist of the Sustainable Finance Hub Ms. Luisa Bernal.
The think tank also met with Mr. Mussie Delelegn, Chief of Landlocked Developing Countries’ Section of the Division for Africa, Least Developed Countries and Special Programmes of UNCTAD together with Mr. Andrzej Bolesta, Economic Affairs Officer of the Productive Capacities and Sustainable Development Branch of UNCTAD, and Ms. Simonetta Zarrilli, Chief of Trade, Gender and Development Programme of the Division on International Trade and Commodities of UNCTAD, in a separate meeting.
The Secretariat exchanged views on potential collaboration modalities and updated them on the activities of the ITTLLDC and ongoing projects that are being planned, such as the development of a free trade model agreement specifically designed for the landlocked developing countries, a regional experience-sharing conference for the economic empowerment of women entrepreneurs in Asian (with a view to expanding) LLDCs, and the capacity building project for officials from LLDCs on trade negotiations that is being planned within the framework of the MoU with UNITAR.
