The significant meeting, jointly organized by the Government of Paraguay, the United Nations Office of the High Representative for Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States (UN-OHRLLS), and the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (UN-ECLAC), took place on 27-28 July 2023 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Asunción, Paraguay.
Attended by Senior Officials from Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs), transit countries in Latin America (Paraguay and Bolivia), development partners, relevant UN agencies, and other international organizations, the gathering aimed to undertake a comprehensive review of the implementation of the Vienna Programme of Action for LLDCs for the Decade 2014-2024 (VPoA). This review process will lay the groundwork for the Third United Nations Conference on LLDCs, scheduled to take place in 2024. The forthcoming conference will formulate and adopt a renewed framework for international support to address the special needs of LLDCs and enhance partnerships between LLDCs, transit countries, and development partners.
In alignment with the General Assembly’s resolutions 76/217 and 77/246, the Conference will be preceded by national and regional-level reviews, including this High-level Latin America Regional Review Meeting held in Paraguay. The outcomes of this regional review will contribute to the preparatory process of the upcoming Third United Nations Conference on LLDCs, fostering more comprehensive and effective approaches to address the unique challenges faced by Landlocked Developing Countries.
ITTLLDC Executive Director Mr. Dulguun spoke as a panelist and highlighted the importance of the clean energy, regional trade and supply chain network, and aviation role for the LLDCs.
