In 2015, there was a good cooperation between the ITT for LLDCs (International Think Tank for Land Locked Developing Countries) and UNV (UN Volunteers programme) in Mongolia. Based on the potential identified to host UN Volunteers at the ITT for LLDCs, hosting the first international UN Volunteer was realized with the generous support of the Government of Japan and Kwansei Gakuin University.
The UN University Volunteer from Japan, Yuma Koyama, has been serving to support research and external relations since this September. Her main duties include providing support to project implementation and research work of the Think Tank.
The Government of Mongolia led the establishment of the ITT for LLDCs since 2006. It is aimed at providing academic support using high quality research and advocacy for strategic interventions to enhance the development prospects of all 32 LLDCs including Mongolia. The Think Tank also strives to provide a platform for knowledge sharing, support for intra-LLDC collaboration and other South-South engagement as well as for global cooperation.
In the lead up to becoming an inter-governmental organization, realization of the multinational research team from LLDCs and other land-locked countries will facilitate such knowledge sharing, advocating common policy concerns, cross fertilizing best practices on transit, transport and trade negotiations. For that, well qualified and experienced international UN Volunteers to ITT for LLDCs from the member states and other supporting countries will be highly beneficial for strengthening the capacity of the ITT for LLDCs.
ITT for LLDCs is eager to supporting the spirit of volunteerism not only in Mongolia but also in LLDCs around the world.
